Since we're nice and far into the new season now, I thought I'd post the stuff I'm still watching, as well as my thoughts on them. Also, yes, I put them in order of how I rank them, don't lynch me for putting Boku dake second.
1 - Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
2 - Boku dake ga Inai Machi
3 - Dagashi Kashi
4 - Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!
5 - Durarara!!x2 Ketsu
6 - Dimension W
7 - Akagami no Shirayuki-hime (2nd season)
8 - Gate (2nd season)
9 - Hai to Gensou no Grimgar
So, on to my thoughts. Rakugo and Boku dake are easily the best two things coming out this season by a huge margin, and I absolutely love both of them, but at the same time, I personally prefer Rakugo more. There's something about the atmosphere and the music that grabs my attention and holds it in a way no anime has since I watched Mushishi. Now, I'm not saying this show is quite that good, but I do feel that this mellow, atmospheric tone is something that really makes it a standout among all of this seasons shows. On the other hand, Boku dake is the exact opposite, holding our attention through cliffhangers and a deep and interesting mystery. While they both achieve the same effect, they go about it in such a manner that it is really hard to compare them directly, and thus, my ranking comes down to personal preference, both are easily nines or tens on my scale.
Dagashi Kashi is the anime that surprised me the most this season. While it is generic and has very little separating it from the likes of other seasonal comedies, I feel that the love of the writers and animators really comes out in the characters. The gestures and comedic timing are on point, and I love how every episode is simply building on the interactions between the relatively small cast. Something similar happens with Konosuba, which also plays off this idea, but to a much lesser extent (relying on lesser jokes and more fan-service to get its point across).
Everything else I'm watching is 6/10 stuff that merely helps pass the time, the only real thing of note is that I really like Grimgar's art style, even if the pacing is incredibly slow and the characters are average at best.
So what are everyone's thoughts now that we're farther into the season? Have you given into the Boku dake overhype yet?
