This past semester I've noticed that a lot more of our members are studying Japanese either at the 1st or 2nd year level than in years past, so I thought that I'd try organizing a study group for people taking Japanese. If you've studied Japanese here at all, you'll know that not too many people are doing it because of anime, manga, or games, and that can make it hard to connect with your classmates. I think that being able to study with other CAINE members who share your interests would go a long way towards making learning Japanese more enjoyable for everyone involved. I've been studying Japanese for four years, and I have to remind myself periodically by reading manga or translating something just why I'm doing this—because it is a huge amount of work, and honestly it can get quite tiresome at times.
So, whether it be because you frequently have questions about homework, you need that extra motivational boost, or just want to study with a different group of faces, I hope you'll give this a try! Right now, I'd like to shoot for meeting once per week. If you are interested at all, please post with your availability, so I can schedule a time that works for everyone.
Going forward, this thread will be for organizing meetings, as well as for homework help (you might not want to wait until the next meeting) and general discussion.

Attached to this post are several Anki Flashcard Decks: the complete Genki I and Genki II (second edition) vocab lists with reading kanji (a requirement for UVa classes), and a set of cards for Heisig's Remember the Kanji (first five lessons), formatted the way he suggests in the book.
